01 — Overview

What iCapital does

Getting alternatives into client portfolios has always involved friction: paper-heavy subscriptions, fragmented fund access, disconnected reporting, and no single place to manage the full investment lifecycle. ICapital was founded in 2013 in New York to address that friction at scale, and has grown into a platform supporting over $1.2 trillion in active global assets across wealth managers, private banks, wirehouses, and registered investment advisors.

For family offices and wealth advisors allocating to alternatives, iCapital operates across two primary surfaces. The flagship marketplace provides access to funds from managers including Blackstone, KKR, Apollo, Carlyle, and Ares, spanning private equity, private credit, real estate, infrastructure, hedge funds, structured investments, and annuities. The iCapital OS operating system connects these allocations to a full workflow stack:

  • Digital subscription processing and paperless e-processing
  • Portfolio analytics and construction tools with alternative allocation modelling
  • Lifecycle management including capital calls, distributions, and document storage
  • Client reporting and consolidated performance tracking
  • Custodian, transfer agent, and fund administrator integrations
  • White-label custom platform deployment under a firm's own brand

Firms that want branded access for their own clients can deploy iCapital's Custom Platform Solution, which has been adopted by over 40 fund sponsors and wealth management firms including RBC Wealth Management, Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan, and UBS. The platform supports feeder fund structuring for smaller-scale investments, which reduces minimum barriers for high-net-worth clients who would otherwise be locked out of institutional fund sizes.

Pricing is not publicly disclosed, and the platform is clearly designed for firms already committed to alternatives at meaningful scale. Family offices operating with minimal alternatives exposure or without dedicated investment operations staff may find the depth of the toolset exceeds their current workflow needs.

iCapital provides the platform we use to offer a full spectrum of alternative income strategies and allowing us to stay ahead of the game and attract new clients and retain existing ones.
