Institutional custody, prime services, and collateral management for digital assets.
Institutional digital asset custody requires a different architecture than traditional finance custody, and Copper was built from 2018 with that constraint at its center. The firm’s core technology is multi-party computation (MPC) custody, which holds assets in segregated vaults without exposing private keys during transaction signing. For a family office allocating to digital assets, the practical consequence is that assets never leave custody to settle trades on centralised exchanges.
That last point is the operational crux of Copper’s ClearLoop network. Rather than moving assets onto an exchange to trade, positions are settled within Copper’s infrastructure, eliminating exchange counterparty risk. As of 2024, ClearLoop processes a monthly average of 20 million trades with a notional value of $100 billion. Beyond ClearLoop, the platform supports:
Copper explicitly lists family offices among its target client types alongside hedge funds, ETP providers, and venture capital funds. Investors include Barclays, Target Global, and MMC Ventures, and the firm has offices in the United Kingdom with US operations. Pricing is not publicly disclosed, and the product suite is purpose-built for institutional-scale digital asset operations rather than diversified multi-asset family office reporting. A family office with limited or early-stage digital asset exposure may find the depth of the offering exceeds their immediate needs, but one actively trading or allocating across digital asset strategies will find few comparable alternatives on counterparty risk architecture alone.
