01 — Overview

What Asset Vantage does

Asset Vantage was built from inside a family office, not sold into one. The family office of a technology group, frustrated by fragmented data and manual workflows, built its own system and later commercialized it as Asset Vantage. That origin shapes the product in a specific way: the general ledger and portfolio performance engine are not separate modules stitched together but a single integrated system where every investment transaction auto-posts to the GL. For family offices that have tried to reconcile accounting books with investment reports and found the two perpetually out of sync, this architectural decision is the product's defining characteristic.

The platform handles a range of operational tasks that typically require multiple point tools:

  • Multi-entity consolidation across individuals, trusts, LLCs, partnerships, foundations, and estates
  • Partnership accounting with multi-level ownership, GP/LP tracking, and dynamic equity allocation
  • Private equity and alternatives tracking including commitments, drawdowns, J-curve reports, and IRR/PME benchmarks
  • Automated custodian and bank data feeds with T+1 or T+2 reconciliation
  • Check writing and bill pay via BILL integration
  • Document vault with role-based permissions and audit trails

Asset Vantage also offers a managed services option, where clients delegate day-to-day accounting and reconciliation to the AV team, which reduces key-person risk without requiring a full in-house back office. The platform is SOC certified, hosted on AWS, and supports multi-currency reporting across international structures. Pricing is not publicly disclosed, and the platform does not support direct sync with third-party accounting systems like SAP, nor does it handle payroll or business operating entity accounting. Firms that need CRM, trading execution, or tax liability calculation will need to source those capabilities elsewhere.
